SECTION 805.1. Purpose

(a) The rules contained in this chapter may be cited as the Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) rules. (b) The purpose of the AEL programs is to provide adults with sufficient academic instruction and education services below the postsecondary level to increase an individual's ability to: (1) read, write, and speak in English and perform mathematics or other activities necessary for the attainment of a secondary school diploma or its recognized equivalent; (2) participate in job training and retraining programs or transition to postsecondary education and training; and (3) obtain and retain employment.
