SECTION 746.3901. What steps must I take to have animals at my child-care center and/or on field trips?

If you choose to have animals on the premises of your child-care center and/or on field trips, you must:
(1) Notify parents in writing when animals are or will be present; (2) Ensure the animals do not create unsafe or unsanitary conditions; (3) Ensure that children do not handle any animal that shows signs of illness, such as lethargy or diarrhea; and (4) Ensure that caregivers and children practice good hygiene and hand washing after handling or coming in to contact with an animal and items used by an animal, such as water bowls, food bowls, and cages.
