SECTION 553.230. General Requirements for a New Large Type A Assisted Living Facility

(a) A new large Type A assisted living facility must comply with the requirements of 32.3, Large Facilities, in NFPA 101, Chapter 32, New Residential Board and Care Occupancies, as modified by this division, except as permitted by subsection (b) of this section. (b) A new large Type A assisted living facility campus comprised of multiple buildings providing sleeping rooms for no more than 16 residents in any one building may comply with other provision in NFPA 101, as follows. (1) Each individual building providing sleeping rooms on the campus may comply with the requirements in 32.2, Small Facilities, in NFPA 101, Chapter 32, New Residential Board and Care Occupancies. (2) Other buildings on the campus that are part of the new large Type A assisted living facility may be permitted to comply with the requirements for other occupancies in NFPA 101, subject to approval by HHSC. (3) The provisions of this subsection do not apply where any building provides sleeping rooms for more than 16 residents. (c) All space planning and utilization requirements required by §553.232 of this division (relating to Space Planning and Utilization Requirements for a New Large Type A Assisted Living Facility) must be provided and located in the new residential board and care occupancy required by subsection (a) of this section.
