(a) The BEI Board assists in the testing and certifying of interpreters to verify that they have reached varying levels of proficiency in skills necessary to facilitate communication between people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people who are not deaf or hard of hearing. (b) The BEI Board recommends standards to DHHS for each of several levels of certification based on proficiency.
